The Lolo Jones story is an amazing and inspirational one of a challenged young girl, finding strength in herself to rise out of poverty, hunger and her life circumstances, through running. Living at times in a church basement, or sleeping on the stage of a Salvation Army Gym, Lolo remembers having to run long distances often, and from a very young age, because her family rarely had a working car. As she grew up, the more she ran, the less she worried about her poverty, and the more hope and strength she gathered about her goals. By high school, she had become a good track athlete, but was nearly overlooked to be recruited for a track scholarship. Fortunately, she was discovered by a top coach at LSU where she has ever since proved her ability to rise to challenges and accomplish seemingly unbelievable goals. I recommend watching starting at 5:00-14:10 and 17:30 to the end.

James Cleveland OwensFriends & family called him "JC" growing up, and when a teacher mispronounced this learning his name, "Jesse" stuck from there. Overcoming discrimination, segregation, poverty, raising a family while attending college, working & running on the track team all at once, Jesse Owens even stood up to Hitler & Nazi Germany while winning 4 Gold Medals, in the 1936 Olympics.
